At Feel Good Comms, we’re all about improving our skills, and what better test subject than our very large, very cute Rottweiler, Bonnie.

We started Bonnie’s Instagram page for a bit of fun and a place to post some of our favourite memories. As Bonnie turned one, we smashed the 10,000 follower mark. Bonnie has been the ultimate guinea pig for sharpening our content skills and testing what actually makes people hit that follow button.

Here are three learning of what Bonnie (and her data) taught us this year:

Trust the data over your ego: Experiment with every format and check your professional dashboard, because even if you spend hours editing a masterpiece, the internet usually just wants to see a photo of your dog sleeping or lying in a silly way.

Relatability is the king of shares: If you want people to send your content to their friends, the "Expectation vs. Reality" reels work best. Look at the insights and you can see how long people watch for, how they discover the content, views over time and more.

Social media is a two-way street: To build a real community, you have to get your paws dirty by following relevant accounts, liking posts, and replying to comments so that your followers feel the love and give it right back.

Growing a following is a lot like training a puppy: it takes patience, consistency, and a lot of positive reinforcement. If we can do it for a Rottweiler who spends 80% of her day sleeping, imagine what we can do for you.

To see the logic in action go give @bonnie_batch_the_rottie a follow for your dose of "Feel Good" content: https://www.instagram.com/bonnie_batch_the_rottie/?hl=en
