Protecting your golf club’s reputation

Golf clubs are spaces for relaxation and friendly competition. However, behind the scenes, club managers and committees are increasingly having to navigate a much more challenging issue: member misconduct.
The National Golf Clubs’ Advisory Association (NGCAA), GB’s leading voice in golf club legal advice, has revealed the requests they receive for legal guidance are overwhelmingly dominated by issues surrounding member discipline and misconduct.
When dealing with member disputes, the NGCAA emphasises that following the correct procedure is absolutely critical. Handled poorly, a disciplinary issue can quickly escalate from an internal disagreement into a messy, public crisis.
To prevent this, the NGCAA is urgently calling on all club managers, secretaries, and committees to proactively review their internal documents, including articles of association, club rules and disciplinary policies and procedures.
Ensuring these documents are up-to-date and legally sound prepares clubs to manage and drive disciplinary processes effectively and fairly.
We’ve been helping spread the word to ensure that golf clubs are prepared before any problems arise. By laying the groundwork now, clubs can guarantee that if issues do occur, they are resolved fairly, quietly, and by the book, protecting the club's good name and financial standing.
