Since launching Feel Good Comms, the number one question we’ve been asked in meetings is: “How do we get included in AI overviews?” 


Research indicates generative AI search results now influence over 40% of brand discovery for both B2B and B2C brands. As platforms like Google AI Mode become the primary lens through which we explore the world online, the blue links on Google pages are starting to take a backseat to the quick roundups that AI produces, that users now (rightly or wrongly) rely on for instant decision making.


This shift has given us another marketing acronym to add to the list: : Generative Engine Optimization (GEO)

Unlike traditional SEO, which often rewards keyword density, AI models prioritise expert voices and fact dense content. Copy is shifting focus to high authority commentary that AI models can reference as objective facts. 


When an LLM (Large Language Model) scans the web, it looks for "information gain", unique insights, proprietary data, and expert perspectives that provide new value. To stay visible, brands must move away from "safe" content and instead empower their leaders to become the definitive, citable sources that AI engines use to ground their responses. 


So, how do you secure that coveted mention in an AI summary? 


The most effective lever is PR and earned media coverage. AI engines are programmed to favor third-party validation; they trust a mention in a reputable trade publication or national news site far more than a self published blog post. 


Our top tips for winning the GEO race focus on "credibility signals": first, target authoritative Tier 1 publications. Second, ensure your brand narrative is consistent across all media appearances. Finally, lean into data-driven PR; when your expert commentary is backed by unique statistics and featured in a trusted outlet.
